The Four Movements
What is Lectio Divina?
Lectio Divina — "divine reading" — is a contemplative way of reading Scripture that has been practiced by Christians since the early centuries. It invites you into a conversation with God through four gentle movements.
Lectio
Read
Slowly read a passage of Scripture, letting the words wash over you. Listen for a word or phrase that stands out.
Meditatio
Meditate
Reflect on the word or phrase that caught your attention. Turn it over in your mind and heart, letting it speak to you.
Oratio
Pray
Respond to God in prayer. Share what is on your heart — your gratitude, questions, hopes, and surrenders.
Contemplatio
Contemplate
Rest in God's presence. Let go of words and thoughts. Simply be with the One who loves you beyond measure.
